Maupiti

Unfortunately, heavy rain prevented us to fly to Maupiti, thus we had to cancel this leg and stay longer on Raiatea.

The runway of Maupiti airport is very short. Too short for planes to land and take off in wet conditions. Air Tahiti canceled our flight 30 minutes prior to the planned departure. We were only being told to get booked on the next available flight, but there was no date, when that would be. So we had to make a decision whether to wait in Papeete for a call from Air Tahiti with the next flight attempt, or skip Maupiti and fly directly to Raiatea our next destination after Maupit.

Since there was no guarantee that we will make it to Maupiti and furthermore, what was the risk if we get there, just to get stuck again because of bad weather on or continuation flight 4 days from now. So we decided to rebook for Raiatea, which has no such weather issues and would also allow us to take a short boat trip to Bora Bora, if more flights were canceled.

At the end it turned out to be a good decision, as the conditions did not change for the next two days. The first flight to Maupiti was only 60 hours later, which would have left us with only 1 day on Maupiti.
